Elwood "Woody" King

Elwood "Woody" D. King Portland, MI and Zephyrhills, FL Age 91, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013. He was born on November 22, 1921 in Eaton County, MI the son of Lee and Thelma (Depue) King. Mr. King was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on a submarine during World War II. Woody retired from General Motors, and was a lifelong farmer. He loved fishing, traveling, and was quite the handyman. Preceding him in death were his wives, Ruth and Sigred. Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Schalow King; children, Marlene Seifert, Alana Lord, Rod Vedder, Robert (Sharon) Schalow, and Suzan (Robert) McWilliams; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; nieces, Margaret King and Judy Venzke. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the First Congregational Church, Portland, with the Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson presiding. Interment will take place at Needmore Cemetery, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gulfside Hospice, or the First Congregational Church, in memory of Woody. On line condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
